Each year, I choose a Word of the Year—a simple yet meaningful word to guide my focus and intentions both personally and professionally. As the Executive Director at Vitalia Westlake, the start of a new year feels like a perfect opportunity to reset, refocus, and prepare for the challenges and opportunities ahead. The word I select becomes an anchor, shaping how I lead my team, support families, and care for our residents. Reflecting on 2024, I’m amazed by how much my Word of the Year influenced our journey.
The Word of the Year for 2024 was persevere. This choice was both powerful and fitting as we worked to build a new team and culture. It reflected the season of life we were in—one of new beginnings, challenges, and exciting growth. While the year brought moments of uncertainty, persevere became our constant reminder that creating something meaningful requires time, effort, and unwavering dedication.
This word shaped our decisions, strengthened our relationships, and fostered personal and professional growth. It encouraged us to stay resilient and steadfast, even during overwhelming challenges. Perseverance taught us the importance of patience, consistency, and recognizing that true success comes from persistent effort. With this mindset, we overcame obstacles, built a strong foundation, and made significant progress—one step at a time.
Looking back, persevere has left a lasting impact on how we approach growth and commitment. It showed us our capabilities and prepared us for future achievements. This word reminded us that resilience and effort are key to building something meaningful and long-lasting.
