Building Safety Month takes place in May every year and is internationally recognized for raising awareness in keeping buildings safe.
This initiative unites industries, associations, academia, and government under a common goal to protect the public by creating a safe and resilient environment. Our primary focus as the Plant Operations Team at VITALIA Senior Residences® at Westlake Westlake, OH is keeping our residents, visitors, and staff safe.
We have certain tasks that are performed to safeguard our community. We ensure that all safety and fire drills are done to keep us alert and aware of proper procedures. We take pride in keeping our staff always vigilant for potential issues and the proper prevention. I have also placed high visibility tape on our robot vacuum cleaners to ensure they are visible to our residents, so that they do not trip over them or step on them.
As the Plant Operations Director it is my job to ensure that all our equipment is working correctly and in accordance with all agencies. I am always looking for ways to improve our ability to operate in a safe and consistent manner. I have implemented a magnet system for use when we have a fire drill or other type of disaster drill. When we do a building inspection for fire, we can take the magnet from inside the door frame and place it outside the door to let others know that the room has been cleared and is empty. The magnets are yellow on the reverse side so that we can use the yellow side to notify when rooms have been searched during an elopement search situation.
I also utilize my building safety at home with fire and tornado drills.
