Kindness is defined as doing something toward yourself and others, motivated by genuine desire to make a positive difference. Kindness is shown to increase self-esteem and mood, decrease stress levels, improve relationships, slow aging, and is accompanied by emotional warmth. Research shows kindness and mental health are deeply connected.

To me, kindness means the ability to act in a manner that shows respect on every level, going above and beyond for others. Some ways to encourage kindness and put a smile on someone’s face are simply stopping to ask how someone’s day is, taking a moment to ask if someone needs something, or putting someone’s needs before yours. The inspiration of kindness is usually spread by the act itself.
Hospice staff is the prime example of kindness. End-of-life is such a special time and being able to hold their hand, sing to them, and give them everything that they ask for, with a smile on their face, is the ultimate gift. The kindness that is bestowed upon them is life altering.
Kindness is important to health and well-being and can change your whole demeanor on the day. It’s something that once you get a piece of it, you want to give it to somebody else as well.
