VITALIA Senior Residences® at Westlake Celebrate National Nurses Week

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. These permanent dates enhance planning and position National Nurses Week as an established recognition event. As of 1998, May 8 was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week (May 6-12) each year. The nursing profession has been supported and promoted by the American Nurses Association (ANA) since 1896.

I appreciate Dawn’s ability to lead with empathy and accountability as Director of Wellness. It is not hard to tell that Dawn is in her role for the right reasons and truly cares about the residents and their wellbeing. It is reassuring working alongside such a dedicated and well-rounded nursing leader.

In Dawn’s short time here, she has earned the respect of the residents and families by listening, understanding, and seeking to implement change. Our wellness team is caring, compassionate, and truly works to meet our needs every day. They go above and beyond their scope to ensure our residents are taken care of and enjoying their lives.

The one thing I am most proud about within our wellness team is their ability to show up in the face of adversity and overcome obstacles to ultimately keep our residents first. Whether it’s been during the COVID pandemic or a large winter storm in Cleveland, time and time again our wellness team has met the challenge head on and knocked it out of the park.

Our wellness team tackled the COVID-19 pandemic head on through their willingness to face adversity, pick up extra shifts to cover for a sick teammate, and ultimately follow strict infection control practices to ensure the safety of the residents, teammates, and community.

I would like to give an extra shoutout to all the Vitalia Westlake employees who have stayed committed to our community and our residents during the last couple years of the pandemic and amid all the uncertainty in the healthcare field. Their ability to remain true to their community and put others before self is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and commitment to Vitalia Westlake.

We will recognize our nurses at VITALIA Senior Residences® at Westlake Westlake, OH during National Nurses Week with a pinning ceremony. We are also providing lunch and prizes throughout the week, as well as having our residents create special thank you note gifts to celebrate our nurses.
