Each year, National Assisted Living Week provides a special opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the world of assisted living communities across our nation. The week is meant to spotlight the amazing efforts of caregivers working in these communities as well as the unique residents who reside in them. As we join in this national observance, it is a chance to reflect on the importance of compassionate care, celebrate the vibrant lives of residents, and appreciate the incredible staff who make it all possible. This week also highlights the importance of assisted living communities being a part of neighborhoods across the nation.
Assisted living communities are a valuable resource for the neighborhoods they serve. They make it easier for residents to connect with others, whether it’s their neighbors or staff members, daily.
This helps reduce isolation and feelings of loneliness. Residents can participate in events of interest with their neighbors, make new friends over a meal in the dining room, or even meet up for a walk around the building.
As National Assisted Living Week has officially kicked off, we are fully embracing this year’s theme, “Inspiring Generations.” This theme captures the nature of what makes Vitalia Westlake so special: the blend of wisdom from our older adults and the fresh vibrancy of the professionals who work here each day. To celebrate, residents and staff will enjoy a week full of unique events that highlight the various service areas that contribute to the spirit and success of our community.
What I look forward to most during National Assisted Living Week is the fun interaction between our residents and staff members. This week allows staff to enjoy the people they care for in a more relaxed setting, and it gives residents time to appreciate the company and the attention of different staff members. We often get so busy with our jobs that we forget to slow down and have fun with our residents. This week serves as a wonderful reminder to do just that.
It is our hope by truly embracing the journey our aging adults take when they choose to make an assisted living community their home, we can inspire others to make the leap and join the wonderful culture and truly thrive alongside others in their generation.
