Bringing Passion and Positivity to the Plate

As Culinary Director at Vitalia Westlake, I approach each day with passion, not just purpose. I face new challenges, hear fresh stories, and always find reasons to feel grateful. I’m excited to share how I arrived in this role, what drives my commitment, and what a typical day looks like in our community. My work goes beyond preparing meals—it focuses on building connections, creating purpose, and making a real difference where it matters most.

A Culinary Director helps senior residents decorate a gingerbread house with candy and pretzels during a festive holiday activity in the senior living community.

From the beginning, my goal has been to spread joy and create good times wherever I go. When the opportunity to lead a culinary team in senior living came along, I saw the perfect way to pair hospitality with deeper meaning. It allowed me to bring smiles to the table and push creative boundaries in the best way possible.

Hospitality Rooted in Communication

My background in various restaurants helped shape who I am today. Over time, I realized that success isn’t just about crafting the perfect dish. Any chef can cook, but not every chef can engage a crowd and connect with people. What truly shaped me was learning to communicate clearly, understand different perspectives, and remain grounded—even during busy times.

What I enjoy most about senior living is the laughter. I find real joy in those everyday moments that turn into lasting memories for both residents and team members.

Finding Purpose in the Everyday

Each morning, I begin by greeting those around me with a simple, “Good morning, how are you?” This small habit builds trust, opens conversations, and sets a positive tone for the day—even before that first cup of coffee.

For anyone considering a culinary path in senior living, I offer this advice: stay observant, be honest, and keep your mind open. Often, it’s the little things—not just the food—that make the biggest impact.

I define success by more than just checking off tasks. I look for smiles on faces, energy in the room, and pride on my team’s faces. That’s how I know the day went well.

At day’s end, I take the greatest pride in knowing I’ve added something meaningful—whether it’s a favorite dish, a heartfelt exchange, or a comforting moment. Thank you for welcoming me into your community and allowing me to serve at your table. I’m truly honored.
